During the rainy season, many sanitary sewers throughout the city become overloaded by rainwater because of improper hook ups of storm sewers, sump pumps, and gutters/downspouts. Please remember that City Ordinance 15.21 makes it illegal to have any storm water/rain water hooked into the sanitary sewer system. This clear water is to be pumped either onto the ground or in the storm water collection system. If you have any illegal connections to the sanitary sewer system and would like to have them removed, the City has a 50/50 program where residents may receive up to 50% of the cost (up to $4,000) reimbursed. Residents should contact the Utilities Department for more information on whether they have improper connections and how to identify them or for more information about the program. Attached is the Overhead Sewer Program paperwork for your review.
