The council chambers were full on Monday night as student athletes from Lockport Township High School lined the public seats. It was here that the Mayor and City Council recognized these young men and their coaches for becoming the very first LTHS wresting team to achieve the title of Illinois State Champions. This team completed the 2016-2017 regular Southwest Suburban Conference season with an undefeated record of 29-0. Then, after a series of victories over Edwardsville, Marmion Academy, and Lincoln-Way West, went on to defeat Montini Catholic to earn the prestigious state title. Guided by Coach Josh Oster and 10 other coaches, the 23 star student athletes were the focus of the March 6 City Council meeting and were congratulated by Mayor Ray Soliman and the entire City Council, even receiving a standing ovation.
Once again, congratulations to the Lockport Township High School for achieving such historic success.
